California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta

California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta
February 28 - March 8, 2020

I like to find unique things that set fairs apart from each other, and the California Mid-Winter fair can boast that they have one of the largest arts and crafts displays. In fact they have two full buildings dedicated to the arts and crafts, one for all of the school children who are always making art based on the theme of the fair, and one for the adults arts, crafts, quilts, and food displays.

There are so many creative displays to enjoy, I love how each piece portrayed the theme in their own unique style.

When you walk in, this fair has pony rides and a children's inflatable play area right at the entrance.

Washboard Willy  was entertaining the line of people as they waited to come into the fairgrounds. I love to listen to him sing, he has cover songs and originals, he is a terrific one man band.

There is a butterfly house at this fair and I just had to go in and feed the butterflies, they are so gorgeous and delicate. This one is called a Painted Lady, we visited a long time, and I enjoyed the quiet room and for a moment that time stood still and I could just enjoy the moment.

We got to watch the Flat Track & TT Motorcycle Racing, there were cars and motorcycles it was fun rooting them on as they went around the track.

We got a special treat, Godfrey the Magician did both stage shows and strolling shows. I love watching him give the kids magic lessons after the shows, he gets them excited about magic and encourages them to go to their local or school library and read magic books. The shows are completely different from each other, the stage show has a lot of lager magic while the strolling magic is right in the guests hands!

The fair always has fun foods to try, and Helm and Sons Amusement, the company that brought in the rides, also brought in food, and these adorable Unicorn Apples.
We settled on Street tacos and cucumber refresher from a nearby vendor.  Hubby tried the pineapple refresher and was delighted with the flavor and thick pulp.

The Checker’d Past concert was the best! They play the 80's, MTV music, back from the music MTV days (I sure do miss that) and then the New Wave Music. That makes two hours of heaven, I love singing along.

Part Two of this fair is going to be a more in depth view of the buildings that they offer, The Plaza De Las Culturas, Doc's building, make and take projects, and dancers, STEM projects, Gems and Minerals, Youth Projects, and a Sip and Sip.
Please come back soon!
